TERMINOLOGY

It can be overwhelming when first looking at any workout or training plan. To make things easy, here is a list of common abbreviations, lingo and definitions to help answer any questions and clear any confusion that might pop up while navigating your fitness and health journey.

 

Exercise Abbreviations

 

AB - Assault Bike

Cals. - Calories (on machine)

HSPU - Handstand Push Up

BW - Bodyweight

BB - Barbell

DB - Dumbbell

KB - Kettlebell

T2B - Toes to Bar

K2C - Knees to Chest

RMU - Ring Muscle-up

BMU - Bar Muscle-up

PU - Pull Up

Sn. - Squat Snatch

HS - Hang Snatch

PS - Power Snatch

HPS - Hang Power Snatch

Sn. Bal - Snatch Balance

Cl. - Clean

HC - Hang Clean

PC - Power Clean

HPC - Hang Power Clean

CJ - Clean and Jerk

SP - Strict Press

PP - Push Press

PJ - Push Jerk

SJ - Split Jerk

BN SP - Behind the Neck Strict Press

BN PP - Behind the Neck Push Press

BN PJ - Behind the Neck Push Jerk

BN SJ - Behind the Neck Split Jerk

DL - Deadlift

BS - Back Squat

FS - Front Squat

BP - Bench Press

OHS - Overhead Squat

C2 - Concept 2 Rowing Erg

CTB/C2B - Chest to Bar Pull Up

WBS - Wallball Shots

 

WOD Lingo

 

AMRAP - As Many Reps As Possible

WOD - Workout of the Day

PR - Personal Record

Metcon - Metabolic Conditioning 

RFT - Rounds For Time

EMOM - Every Minute on the Minute

TnG - Touch and Go

AER- Aerobic

An- Anaerobic

RX'd- As prescribed


 

Definitions

 

Repetitions/Reps - One performance of a given exercise (eg., 10 reps)

Sets - A group of exercise repetitions(eg., 3 sets of 10 reps)

Block- The total number of sets  completed (eg., 3 sets of 10 reps = 1 block)

Eccentric- The lengthening portion of an exercise. Ex) lowering portion of a squat

Concentric- The shortening portion of an exercise. Ex) standing up from a squat

Isometric- The static hold of an exercise under tension.

 

How To Read Prescription

Sets x Reps:  Ex) 5x10 = 5 sets of 10 repetitions

Ex) Push Press + Push Jerk, 5x(10+10): Ex) 10 push presses + 10 Push Jerks in a single set for 5 total sets.

Tempo: @3301 (eccentric, isometric, concentric and reset)

Ex) 3 seconds down, 3 seconds pause, explode up and 1 second reset *numbers will vary*
